    The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Research Assistant for the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research located at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides administrative and management support to the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR).

    The CRSR is a research center dedicated to the advancement of rehabilitative care for service members with combat related injuries, particularly those with orthopedic trauma, limb loss and neurological complications.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Interviews patients for research protocols, validates eligibility to participate, and evaluates patient commitment.

    2. Educates patients about the research protocol, their roles in the protocols, and any other vital information. Serves as a resource for the patients.

    3. Schedules patient appointments according to research protocol requirements, ensures patients meet appointments in timely manner.

    4. Collects data appropriate to the research protocols, processes and analyzes data resulting from the tests performed on the patients.

    5. Prepares and maintains manual and computerized data in patient study books according to prescribed standards.

    6. Under direction of project heads, prepares documents that report statistical analyses and descriptive data from patient's study.

    7. Participate in the preparation of abstracts for professional conferences, manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals, and development of research proposals.

    8. Write letters and reports and update research protocols as needed.

    9. Performs other duties as assigned

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of clinical investigational procedures; excellent interpersonal skills with patients and clinical staff; excellent computer skills; ability to learn new computer software applications; and ability communicate effectively verbally and in written form. Experience with Motion Capture techniques and software are desired.

    Minimum Education/Training Requirements: BS from an accredited institution in biomechanics or a related field

    Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 years experience with research protocols is preferred.

    Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; interaction with patients

    Work Environment: The work environment is that of a motion analysis laboratory and virtual reality system located in a teaching and research hospital. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to quiet. Work is also performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heat and air conditioning.

    The newly formed Walter Reed National Military Medical Center brings together the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. Our Mission is to lead military medicine through outstanding patient-centered care, innovation, and excellence in education and research. The Center for Performance and Clinical Research (CPCR) is comprised of a 2000 square foot Biomechanics Lab with a 27 camera motion capture system, 6 force platforms, and a split-belt instrumented treadmill. The CPCR also has metabolic, electromyography, and digital fluoroscopy capabilities. The CPCR also houses a 1000 square foot Virtual Reality Laboratory with a Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN).
