University of Virginia's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is seeking a sports minded Laboratory and Research Specialist with a background in biomechanical engineering to aid in collecting 3D motion capture and force data on both patients and human research subjects in the SPEED Clinic in the Gait and Motion Laboratory. Incumbent performs biomechanical assessments using state-of-the-art 3D motion capture technology and instrumented treadmill to track patients and human research subjects through a variety of test and performance protocols. Duties include analyzing and sharing data with stake holders (physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, sport coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, and research sponsors) with the goal of maximizing physical training by improving motor patterns and developing sport specific training programs. The focus is to reduce the risk for injury and enhance athletic performance. The incumbent is responsible for setting-up, maintaining and customizing the systems to ensure proper data capture with a high attention to the integrity of the data. The successful candidate works with patients and human research subjects ranging in age who have a broad range of athletic ability from novice to elite professionals.
