The Neuroplasticity and Motor Behavior Laboratory at Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) has an opening for a research assistant (BS/MS level), beginning summer or Fall 2013. Under the direction of Dr. Shailesh Kantak, the laboratory conducts research on behavioral and brain mechanisms that underlie motor control, learning and motor recovery in people with and without neurological damage. The overarching goal is to develop effective, evidence-based rehabilitation treatments for patients with neuromuscular disorders.
Our RAs gain valuable experience working closely with individuals with stroke, traumatic brain injury, and/or cerebral palsy, and are trained to conduct and analyze experiments with human subjects. They also get opportunities to closely work with technological advances such as non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and motion capture. Based on their participation in research projects, they may also get opportunities to present/ publish conference papers/ posters.
Requirements: Applicants should have (1) a strong academic background in Neuroscience, Biomechanics, Psychology, Kinesiology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (2) Interest in understanding human motor behavior and brain (3) Skills in MATLAB programming (4) Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Additional Skills: Preference will be given to applicants with prior research experience, particularly in motor control or learning.
MRRI and Moss Rehab are part of the Einstein Healthcare Network. MRRI is internationally known for its research in Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation. The position offers competitive salary and benefits (medical, dental, vision, tuition reimbursement). Send cover letter, C.V. and contact information for three references to
