The Division of Solid and Fluid Mechanics in the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories has a 2 year post-doctoral position available for an FDA Office of Women’s Health research study. This study investigates the biomechanical effects of spinal arthroplasty and arthrodesis devices on women.
Qualifications: We are seeking individuals with a Ph.D in Mechanical or Biomedical engineering with mechanics or biomaterials concentration. This position is only available for candidates who have completed their doctoral degree within the past 5 years. Candidates with experience in spine biomechanics (including fatigue and fracture), cadaver testing, multi-axial mechanical testing, test fixture design, and motion capture are highly encouraged to apply. The candidate should be self-motivating, show initiative, and be able to work independently as well as direct undergraduate students. In addition, we seek a candidate with excellent interpersonal and writing abilities with a good record of publications/presentations. Experience in the following is preferred:
1. MTS and/or Instron load frames
2. Spine or total joint simulators
3. Cadaver biomechanical testing
4. Mechanical testing of spinal devices
