The Biomechanics Laboratory at California State University Fullerton seeks a qualified research intern interested in joining an active research team focused on golf biomechanics. The position is currently unpaid; therefore, this would be an attractive position for those who are able to secure their own funding, wish to enhance their research publication record, and/or are fond of the University’s attractive Southern California location. For those qualified candidates, there may also be opportunities to teach in the Department of Kinesiology for compensation. We are actively seeking funding for this position and hope that it will eventually turn into a paid position.

About the Job
The mission of the Biomechanics Lab is to investigate golf mechanics and human movement efficiency using state-of-the-art biomechanical research technologies. We are seeking someone who can assimilate and work with the faculty as well as undergraduate and graduate students to further our academic research and community projects in a rigorous and friendly environment. It is anticipated that the applicant will be able to accept the challenge of this environment while serving as a representative to the university and community.
The Biomechanics Laboratory is a 1600-square-foot facility and equipped with an ultrasound putting analysis system, golf ball tracking radar and simulator, a 16-channel tethered electromyography system, a 6 channel telemetry EMG system, a 9-camera 3D motion capture system, a dual force platform system with interchangeable platform configurations interfaced to a 32-channel A/D board with data acquisition and analysis software.
Responsibilities of the Biomechanics Research Intern
• Oversee day-to-day activities in the biomechanics laboratory.
• Assist in data collection in the laboratory for multiple concurrent studies and provide proper documentation and organization of the collected data.
• Test and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure reliability and validity of the data collection processes.
• Assist in abstract and manuscript preparation, with the goal of (co-) authoring multiple peer-reviewed publications per year.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated proficiency in biomechanics instrumentation, data collection/processing and research principles
• Good organizational skills
• Self-motivated and able to work independently at times but also be able to work as a team member in a very active research group
• Adaptable to various environments
• Detail-oriented with the capacity to manage or coordinate several study-related tasks concurrently
• Strong interpersonal skills for managing close interactions with faculty and graduate/undergraduate students
• Applicants with research experience and adequate programming (eg.,C++, Matlab and Labview) skills will be given preference
• A strong work ethic along with a desire to learn are favorable attributes
• Proficiecy in writing skills to include abstract and manuscript preparation
• Knowledge of the game and experience playing golf is a plus
• This position is not restricted to individuals with US citizenship, permanent residence or work permits. If applicable, the successful candidate will be issued a DS-2019 form which will be used to apply for the J-1 research scholar category at the U.S. Embassy in his/her home country
