  • PhD position: Cancellous bone biomechanics

    PhD in Cancellous bone biomechanics
    __________________________________________________

A PhD studentship is currently available in our Department of Engineering & Applied Science (it provides a stipend between £13-15k/annum, plus the fees at the home/EU rate paid directly to the university) on cancellous bone biomechanics.

Theme: Material quality factors that affect the toughness of human cancellous bone

    Background and Aims
The project aims to investigate the elastic and toughness properties of human cancellous bone and establish material, histomorphometric and physical factors that affect its behaviour.
The PhD will be supported by all the resources available:
    in the Biomechanics laboratories (http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/cds/cfi/biomechanics.html),
    our departmental facilities (http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/cds/cfi/cmmr.html)
and in our associated collaborating hospitals.

    Eligibility
This position will be available for the September/October 2013 intake.
It is suitable for those having or expected to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree in engineering, physical science, materials or closely related subjects.
A desirable feature of any candidate would be some knowledge of working with FEA, microCT scanners, FTIR, XRD, or Raman spectroscopy.
There is no deadline for applications and the position will stay open until a suitable candidate is identified to take up this post.
Due to funding conditions, only applicants with UK/EU fee status are eligible for the award.

    Applications
Information on the Cranfield application process and relevant application forms can be found in our web pages: http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/students/.../page1109.html

If you wish to discuss your suitability for this post you can email:
