    Orthopeutics (www.orthopeutics.com) is currently seeking a full-time Biomechanical Engineer specializing in experimental soft-tissue mechanics. Applications for this open position will be accepted through the end of August or until a suitable applicant is found.

    Orthopeutics is an early stage technology innovator pioneering an injectable approach to revitalizing mechanically and nutritionally deficient soft tissues. To date, Orthopeutics has spun out two subsidiaries to commercialize different applications of the company’s core technology. The company’s headquarters are located in Lexington, Kentucky, providing an excellent, family oriented community, with a growing biomedical industry presence.

    Job Description:
    The Biomechanical Engineer will be responsible for the development, management and conduct of biomechanics and biomaterials research projects. Responsibilities will include the following: develop detailed research plans; design, build, and commission a unique experimental testing apparatus; perform in vitro biomechanical experiments and advanced computational analyses; manage internal and external resources to achieve project objectives; manage research projects from initial concept and feasibility through transition to product development; prepare reports and presentations for both internal and external publication; and contribute to grant applications, as well as patent disclosures and filings. The engineer may coordinate and direct activities of outside contractors, and train and supervise student interns. The individual will work alongside and report to the company founder/Chief Science Officer. Salary and other forms of compensation will be based on education and experience.

    Qualifications:
    The ideal candidate will have experience with experimental biomechanics of musculoskeletal tissues including intervertebral disc, knee meniscus, ligaments, and tendons. The candidate should be familiar with the design and conduct of in vitro and in vivo experiments. The candidate should also be familiar with standard analytical techniques, MATLAB programming, and preparation of journal articles, grant applications, patent documents, and IACUC and IRB applications. Candidates with MS or PhD degree in Bioengineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Materials Science or equivalent discipline with previous experience in experimental characterization of mechanical properties are encouraged to apply. Strong organizational and technical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team are essential.
