    The mission of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University is to transform human healthcare and the environment by emulating the way nature builds.     Reporting to the Senior Staff Engineer in the Anticipatory Medical and Cellular Devices Platform, the Motion Capture Lab Manager supports the human studies efforts at the Wyss Institute as well as across collaborating institutions. The Motion Capture Lab Manager helps plan, organize, coordinate and oversee the Motion Capture Lab. The lab is primarily used to acquire and analyze how adults, children, and infants negotiate their environment. These data are used to advance the development of assistive medical devices and new diagnostics, as well as to enhance the design of our surrounding environment. The lab consists of Vicon MX-T40 cameras, AMTI OR-6 force plates in an over-ground walkway, a Bertec instrumented treadmill, Delsys Trigno surface electromyography system, and Cosmed K4b2 metabolic test system.

    The Motion Capture Lab Manager will be responsible for managing the motion capture lab, including maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, training new lab users, and assisting with data collection and analysis. Specifically, directing clinical motion capture sessions, as required, by calibrating the motion lab, setting up the laboratory equipment and computer software, collecting the data during the study session, and reducing the data to ensure accuracy. The Manager will develop work performance standards, schedules and assign work, ensuring deadlines are met and laboratory operations run efficiently. The Motion Capture Lab Manager will provide technical expertise and information as needed and/or as requested and will participate in long-term planning and budgeting processes and the identification of project personnel and equipment needs. The Manager will support the development and monitoring of laboratory budgets and participates in the purchase of equipment and supplies. The Motion Capture Lab Manager will work with the Institute staff to ensure resources are available and effectively managed to support research projects and laboratory activities. The Manager will maintain knowledge of technical advancements in analysis software and specialized instrumentation and equipment. The Manager will establish and revise laboratory policies and procedures to ensure compliance and currently safety requirements with state and federal agencies, as well as Harvard University. The Manager will prepare and maintain required documentation and analyze data using computer hardware and software. The Motion Capture Lab Manager will be able to assess and validate the data collected, identifying potential problems, and taking action to correct them. The Manager will consult and network with other laboratories while performing assigned duties.

    Participates in writing research proposals, reports, presentations, and publications. Supports staff, faculty, and collaborators to collect, analyze, and report data. Interacts regularly with affiliated Institute faculty and platform staff.


    Basic Qualifications
    Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Engineering or related field required. 1-2 years of relevant post degree experience required.


    Additional Qualifications
    PhD preferred. Experience working with kinematic and kinetic data sets. Experience working with electromyographic data. Prior experience with motion capture software (Nexus) and computer programming (Matlab, Simulink, OpenSim, and/or Visual 3D). Willingness to tackle multiple projects simultaneously. Willingness to work at all levels to accomplish team goals. Excellent organizational skills, creativity, and communication ability. Experience with office productivity software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). PhD preferred. Experience with statistical analysis and estimating power for clinical studies. Experience with writing and reviewing IRB protocols.Experience with robotics systems and device testing protocols. Proven track record of scientific contributions as evidenced by authorship on papers, posters, and conference presentations
