The Devices Research & Development (R&D) team designs, develops and commercializes over-the-counter products mainly for the Dr. Scholl's brand in the Footcare franchise. The Devices R&D team may also support the Skincare, Upper Respiratory and Women’s Health franchises within Merck Consumer Care (MCC).
This is an Advanced Concepts product development position within the Devices R&D team. This position will focus on front end product innovation, design thinking, product concept development and realization, and initial prototype development. Specially, this position will:
1) Identify the functional needs of the target consumer,
2) Interpret relevant consumer insights,
3) Partner with key opinion/research leaders to understand existing solutions,
4) Innovate new products through the application of current research, technology scouting and technology landscaping,
5) Design and develop new product prototypes for both domestic and global markets.
Internally, this position regularly interfaces with Franchise and Innovation teams as well as Marketing, Global Project Management, Regulatory, Legal and Clinical groups within MCC. Externally, this position interfaces with suppliers and vendors as well as innovation and research labs.
Education Minimum Requirement:
• MS in Engineering, Biomechanics or Ergonomics
Required Experience and Skills:
• Minimum 2 yrs experience in a consumer product company in a product development and/or biomechanical/mechanical lab manager/testing role.
• Excellent communication and organization skills required.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and work within product teams.
• Ability to work in an open innovative environment.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
• Direct lab experience with:
1) biomechanical or electronic sensors
2) biomechanical equipment and testing
3) mechanical equipment and testing
