Description:
Bone biomechanics is one of the main research interests at the Institute for Lightweight Design and Structural Biomechanics. Bone fracture risk increases with age and disease. It has been proposed that a change of the material properties of bone is in part responsible for this.
Building on a recently completed PhD project this project aims to investigate bone biomechanics, structure and chemical composition at the micro- and nanoscale. It is planned to image mechanical deformation of bone using atomic force microscopy. Further an attempt shall be made to develop new sample preparation techniques to enable the direct mechanical characterisation of microstructural elements of bone. Using these tools differences between healthy and aged/diseased bone tissue are to be elucidated.
The official job posting can be found here:
Qualifications:
We seek an individual with a completed MSc in Physics, Mechanical Engineering Materials Science or a related discipline, knowledge in biomechanics and German language skills (native speaker or level B2 according to CEFR)
Further information:
For informal discussions please contact Professor Philipp Thurner, pthurner@ilsb.tuwien.ac.at
How to apply:
please send applications to rene.fuchs@tuwien.ac.at
