The Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware invites nominations and applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (nine month academic year appointment) with an appointment effective September 1, 2014. We seek a rehabilitation biomechanist, specializing in orthopaedic rehabilitation and/or biomechanics and movement science with the potential to develop an innovative and extramurally funded research program that will complement the University’s many outstanding programs in orthopaedic rehabilitation. The successful applicant will also contribute to the Department’s teaching efforts at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. The teaching load will be appropriate to allow the candidate to pursue and establish a rigorous research program.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in a related field and post-doctoral training or independent research experience are required.
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology (http://www.udel.edu/kaap) is a thriving academic unit of 16 faculty, approximately 700 undergraduate students pursuing a B.S. in Exercise Science or Athletic Training, and 40 graduate students pursuing an M.S. in Exercise Science, a Ph.D. in Biomechanics and Movement Sciences or a Ph.D. in Applied Physiology. The Department provides an environment that supports and fosters the development of focused, productive and high-quality research programs. The Department houses the BADER Consortium, a $19.7 million Department of Defense grant to support and strengthen orthopaedic rehabilitation research supporting wounded warriors (http://www.bader-c.org/). In addition, the Department plays an active role in the Delaware INBRE (http://inbre.udel.edu/), funded by NIGMS, which provides new investigators with pilot grants, and fee waivers for the use of core facilities. The College of Health Sciences is a thriving academic unit of over 2000 students and approximately 100 faculty with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. Including the departments of Behavioral Health and Nutrition, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Physical Therapy, and the School of Nursing, the College is currently transitioning to an exciting new collaborative clinical research complex http://www.udel.edu/chs/star/index.html on a 272-acre tract of University property being developed as a Science, Technology, and Advanced Research campus in one of the nation’s leading life science regions.
