The following is a second post of an open position. Akron General Medical Center, one of Northeast Ohio's premier hospitals and regional referral center in Orthopaedics, is seeking a Research Associate to participate in research projects focused on musculoskeletal biomechanics in collaboration with practicing orthopaedic surgeons and orthopaedic residents.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Scientist, Biomechanics, the Research Associate will:
• Prepare and test cadaveric specimens for simulated joint function and strength/stiffness measurements.
• Design and create fixtures for experimental testing.
• Create computational models for 3-D representation of joint motion based on imaging data.
• Perform computational simulation of joint function via MatLab programs and computational mechanics software.
• Write programs to capture and process experimental testing data.
• Collect and processes data, and provide preliminary data analysis and interpretation.
• Assist with the preparation and submission of abstracts, manuscripts, and grant applications.
• Supervise students participating in research activities.
• Participate in collaborative working relationships with medical staff, other AGHS departments/ personnel or outside organizations.
Qualifications:
• BS in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or related discipline, MS preferred
• Strong organizational ability
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Previous experience with:
• Operating a servo-hydraulic testing machine
• Matlab programming and software for data collection
• Computational mechanics
• Motion analysis systems
