  • Research Assistants for designing an orthopaedic hip joint distractor

    The Sport Performance and Biomechanics Laboratory (http://www.ort.cuhk.edu.hk/spblab) in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is recruiting two research assistants to design a medical exoskeleton device to distract the human hip joint to cure an orthopaedic problem.

    Applicants should have (i) a Master/Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Orthopaedics, Musculoskeletal Biomechanics, Prosthetics and Orthotics, or related disciplines; (ii) knowledge and experience in 3-dimensional modeling and computational finite element biomechanics analysis, (iii) knowledge and experience in either computer-aided product design (for Position 1) or human cadaveric biomechanics experiment (for Position 2); and (iv) a good command of written and spoken English and/or Chinese (Cantonese).

    Duties include (a) to design, optimize, fabricate and evaluate a medical exoskeleton device to distract the hip joint for treating an orthopaedic problem in paediatric patients, (b) to work closely with medical doctors as well as non-clinical professors from orthopaedics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, radiology, as well as prosthetics and orthotics departments, to ensure the progress of the project, (c) to perform other research tasks as assigned by the supervisors.
