College of Social Science
Location: Brayford Campus, Lincoln
£13,726 per annum stipend
Closing Date: Thursday 10 October 2013

Applications are invited for a fully funded studentship from outstanding, highly-motivated students from the UK, EU and internationally to join a thriving research environment based in one of the world’s great small cities.
The project is on “Skill development through 3D technology”, and is a collaboration between University of Lincoln (Prof David Mullineaux), Cardiff Metropolitan University (Prof Gareth Irwin) and Qatar’s Aspire Academy, with additional funding from East Midlands European Regional Development Fund 2007-13 and Lincolnshire County Council. The studentship will be based in Lincoln, with occasional travel to Cardiff and Qatar. The appointment will initially be made on the basis of one year of funding.
The successful candidate will investigate applications of 3D technology to skill learning. Applicants from sport science, biomechanics, engineering or related areas are all eligible to apply. A strong aptitude for mathematics and an ability to program in Matlab or in Visual Basic in our motion-capture system software is desirable. Candidates are encouraged to contact Prof David R Mullineaux (telephone 01522 837143 / email dmullineaux@lincoln.ac.uk) for an informal discussion.
More details regarding the Schools and the University can be found at www.lincoln.ac.uk.
Applicants should have a first or upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant area. Applicants with a relevant Masters are particularly welcome. Suitably qualified candidates worldwide may apply, although non UK/EU students must self-fund the difference between the International and UK/EU fee rate. Applicants should possess excellent report writing and English language communication skills and an ability to work to deadlines. In return for the studentship the successful candidate will be required to do up to 6 hours of teaching or other research work per week.
An application of a 1-page CV and 1-page covering letter including a brief insight into the research topic area should be e-mailed to Sheila Inger (studentshipscss@lincoln.ac.uk).
