The Department of Kinesiology at Temple University (chpsw.temple.edu/kinesiology) is seeking a faculty member for an open-rank (9-month), tenure-track faculty position with expertise in Neuromechanics. This position offers an excellent opportunity to join an innovative research group in motor neuroscience and a dynamic faculty of Kinesiology.
Temple University, a Carnegie Research University (high research activity), is a comprehensive public university located in Philadelphia, PA. The campus is racially and ethnically diverse, with more than 39,000 students. Temple University is among the nation's largest provider of professional education (law, medicine, podiatry, pharmacy, dentistry, engineering, and architecture) offering over 300 academic degree programs. The University, the College of Health Professions and Social Work, and the Department have a strong research infrastructure. The Department of Kinesiology, with more than 1200 students, has strong graduate and undergraduate degree programs. The undergraduate program in Kinesiology is the third largest in the University and is comprised of programs of study in athletic training, exercise science, PHETE (Teacher Education) and pre-health professions (designed for students seeking graduate studies in physical therapy, physician assistant, medicine, nursing, podiatry, occupational therapy, etc.). The graduate program in Kinesiology offers MS and PhD programs in Athletic Training, Integrative Exercise Physiology, and Psychology of Human Movement. Additionally, a new program in Neuroscience is being developed at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Temple University provides an interdisciplinary environment with established links to campus programs in Bioengineering, Medicine, Physical Therapy, Anatomy and Cell Biology, to name a few, and excellent facilities and equipment including a new state-of-the-art virtual reality system for investigation of posture/locomotion at Shriners Hospital for Children on the Temple University health campus. Joint appointment across departments or colleges may be possible as the department’s faculty members are committed to expanding collaboration and fostering interdisciplinary research.
Qualifications: Doctorate in related domain of inquiry, post-doctoral training in the relevant field of research, evidence of a sustainable and focused research program, and a record of extramural research funding (senior faculty position candidates) or demonstrated potential for extramural funding (junior faculty position candidates).
Responsibilities: Develop and maintain a nationally recognized program of original research, including collaborative activities with current faculty. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that complement existing and new curricular offerings. Develop and maintain an externally funded research program.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
Location: Philadelphia is ideally situated offering unique opportunities for collaborative activities with a number of other research universities and clinical institutions (e.g., University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Thomas Jefferson University).
Appointment: 9-month tenure-track appointment could begin as early as July 1, 2014
