Assistant Professor of Kinesiology, Sports Medicine – Penn State
The Department of Kinesiology at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a tenure track faculty member in the area of sports medicine at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2014. This position will provide opportunities to build on exciting collaborative opportunities between the Department of Kinesiology, the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in the College of Medicine, the Center for Sports Medicine, and Intercollegiate Athletics.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in an appropriate area within sports medicine such as athletic training, biomechanics, exercise physiology, neural control of movement, or the psychology of movement and sport and must demonstrate an established record of research and a commitment to excellence in teaching and service. Potential research themes include but are not limited to the areas of musculoskeletal health, sports-related brain injury, or sports performance. Clinical credentials (ATC, DPT, MPT) are preferred but not required. The successful candidate will be expected to secure extramural research funding and assume teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Preference will be given to a candidate whose research builds on existing strengths in the department, has a clinical focus, and has a high potential for translation.
The Department of Kinesiology offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees and is part of the College of Health and Human Development. Our graduate program is currently ranked #1 by both the National Research Council and the National Academy of Kinesiology. The educational environment is enriched by the considerable breadth and diversity of faculty expertise and educational opportunities for students. Significant resources in areas pertinent to sports medicine research include ongoing research in the Department of Kinesiology, the Center for Sport Concussion Research and Service, the Center for Sports Medicine, the Social, Life, and Engineering Sciences Imaging Center, the Clinical and Translation Science Institute, the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Hershey Medical Center, and the Huck Institutes for the Life Sciences. Collaboration with these units will be encouraged.
