The MRI Laboratory in the Department and Radiology and Imaging at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking a Research Assistant.
The position entails assisting with research related to individuals with a primary total hip replacement and individuals who will have revision surgery of their hip replacement.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Interviews patients for research protocols, validates eligibility to participate, evaluates patient commitment, and obtains informed consent.
2. Educates patients about the research protocol, their roles in the protocols, and any other vital information. Serves as a resource for the patients.
3. Assists in scheduling patient appointments according to research protocol requirements, ensures patients meet appointments in timely manner.
4. Collects data appropriate to the research protocols,
5. Assists with histo-pathology sample collection and tracking
6. Synthesizes test results and generate reports
7. Maintains files on research subjects
8. Maintains equipment and computer resources
9. Participate in the preparation of abstracts and manuscripts for scientific publication
10. Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
1. 1 to 2 yrs job-related experience
2. BS or MS in engineering, or related scientific field
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
4. Strong computer and technical aptitude, with attention to detail
5. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, clinical and research staff
6. Knowledge of MATLAB and REDCap is highly desirable
