School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering, University of Manchester, UK
We are searching for an outstanding, energetic individual in the area of musculoskeletal modelling and simulation of human movement to develop a novel predictive human walking model. The project is funded by UK EPSRC with the goal being to construct a novel whole-body musculoskeletal model to predict human walking in normal or some pathological conditions with minimal measurement inputs. This is a fascinating challenge because of the complexities of human movement in three dimensions and its coordination by the central nervous system. You will contribute to our international reputation and growing research portfolio in predictive gait simulation.
You will have a PhD or equivalent in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related discipline. Experience undertaking research in computer modelling and simulation of musculoskeletal system and rigid body dynamics is essential, as is expertise in Matlab or C++ programming. You should be enthusiastic and highly motivated with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to work with minimum supervision. A good publication record appropriate to experience is also desirable. You will be expected to interact closely with our medical and industrial collaborators as part of the research team.
The position is available for 36 months starting 1st January 2014, with renewal dependent on performance and continued availability of funding.
