  • PhD Position at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus

A PhD student position is available, starting September 2014, in the Interdisciplinary Movement Science Lab within the Rehabilitation Science Program at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus.

The successful candidate will participate in research activities examining the effects of physical rehabilitation on muscle function and functional movement mechanics for two primary patient populations: 1) patients with lower limb joint arthritis and 2) patients with major lower-limb amputation.

The Rehabilitation Science Program is designed for students who currently hold an undergraduate or advanced professional degree in a health, science, or engineering field of study, and who are seeking graduate level education to conduct independent research that will advance the science and practice of physical rehabilitation. The specialized area of study for this position will be Biomechanics.

The Interdisciplinary Movement Science Lab specializes in locomotion and movement analysis. The lab is equipped with a motion analysis system which includes an 8-camera motion capture system (Vicon), EMG telemetry system (Delsys), pressure measurement (Tekscan), 12-meter walkway with imbedded force plates (Bertec), an electromechanical dynamometer (Kin-Com) and other specialized equipment to study human movement mechanics.

    Eligibility
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a science, health, or engineering related discipline.
    • Undergraduate GPA 3.0/4.0
    • GRE: >300 (combined) within last 5 years
    • TOEFL: >570 (paper test) / 230 (computer test) / 89 (internet test) for applicants from non-English speaking countries
    • Prior human movement biomechanics research experience is strongly preferred.
