SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR HIGHLY QUALIFIED AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND CITIZENS to complete doctoral level studies aimed at: (1) assessing the effects of acute strength training or muscle stretching interventions on neuromuscular adaptations and athletic performance, or (2) determining the chronic adaptations to strength, plyometrics, stretching or dietary interventions.

A successful applicant will complete a 3-year PhD degree using techniques such as strength/RFD, running speed and muscle force measurement; muscle/nerve electrical stimulation; ultrasound, MRI and x-ray imaging; 3D motion and force analysis; DEXA and laser body composition measurements; and oxygen consumption/movement economy assessment,. The applicant may also be asked to work with external partners such as sports institutes, professional sports teams and/or clinical care organisations in Australia or overseas, with whom we have extensive collaborative arrangements.

ABOUT US
The Centre for Exercise and Sport Science Research (CESSR) at Edith Cowan University (Joondalup, Perth) has an excellent international reputation for research in the fields of strength and conditioning and sports performance optimisation. We have outstanding facilities and extensive research activities in a collaborative and collegial working environment. Our new $2 million biomechanics laboratory and gymnasium area will significantly increase our ability to conduct world-leading research investigating the factors influencing human performance. This research space adds to our existing exercise physiology, motor control and strength & conditioning research laboratories.

FUNDING
Accepted candidates will be led through a competitive scholarship award process. The Inspiring Minds Scholarship is available to Australian residents and is valued at $40,000 per annum (tax free); these scholarships are designed to link exceptional students with highly qualified supervisors and research facilities in health, education, engineering, environment, business, communications and creative arts. Scholarships of $26,000-$31,000 per annum tax free are also available to outstanding candidates. A single application is required, and both scholarship types will be considered.
