The Neuroplasticity and Motor Behavior Laboratory at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) has an opening for a research assistant (BS/MS level), beginning January 2014. Under the direction of Dr. Shailesh Kantak, the laboratory conducts research on behavioral and brain mechanisms that underlie motor learning and recovery in people with and without neurological damage. The overarching goal is to develop effective, evidence-based rehabilitation treatments for patients with neuromuscular disorders.
Our research assistants gain valuable experience working closely with individuals with stroke, traumatic brain injury, and/or cerebral palsy, and are trained to conduct and analyze experiments with human subjects. They also get opportunities to closely work with technological advances such as non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and motion capture systems. Based on their participation in research projects, they may also get opportunities to present/ publish conference papers/ posters.
Requirements: Applicants should have (1) a strong academic background in Neuroscience, Psychology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics and/or Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (2) Interest in understanding human motor behavior and brain (3) Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills (4) Basic programming skills preferred.
Desirable Additional Skills: Preference will be given to applicants with prior behavioral research experience.
