POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE: Assistant Professor
Department of Kinesiology, School of Public Health and Health Sciences
RANK: Assistant Professor, full-time tenure track 9 -month appointment
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
QUALIFICATIONS: PhD or other terminal degree in Kinesiology or closely related field. Applicants with strong research experience are encouraged to apply irrespective of their sub-discipline (e.g. physiology, motor control, physical activity and health, biomechanics, etc.). Expertise in how movement and/or physical activity are directly or indirectly related to health is required. Post-doctoral research experience preferred. Appointee must have strong potential for securing extramural research funding.
DUTIES: The faculty member will be appointed in the Department of Kinesiology which is one of four departments in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. The appointee will be considered for tenure, promotion and merit on the basis of excellence in research, teaching, service and other assigned duties.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Kinesiology Department
• Establishing and developing an active research program with an independent base of support funds that may originate from diverse sources such as federal and state granting agencies, foundations, and industry collaborations
• Overseeing graduate theses, dissertations, independent study and honors capstone projects
• Serving on committees, panels or boards as assigned
NEW OPPORTUNITY: The state of Massachusetts has invested $45 million in a state-of-the art Center for Personalized Health Monitoring and Biometric Sensing (involves departments of kinesiology, polymer science, electrical and computer engineering, computer science and public health) that will be focused on developing, testing and validating wearable sensors to assess gait, physical activity, cardiometabolic health, balance, sleep and related areas. The faculty member hired will have access to this facility and its many resources.
STARTING DATE: September 1, 2014
