Professor, Sensor Engineering in Sport Performance and Clinical Biomechanics, Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia
This is a full-time continuing position with a 17% superannuation contribution. This position is one of up to three professorial appointments Victoria University is seeking to make as part of a strategy to be world renowned in Sport, Exercise and Active Living.
The Professor will have demonstrated international scholarly research activity in the area of Sensor Engineering in Sport Performance and Clinical Biomechanics, and will take advantage of recent advances in sensors and wearable electronics in order to lead new developments in biomechanics and sport performance, supported by our outstanding Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living (ISEAL). The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in developing and leading interdisciplinary research programs. The successful applicant will work closely with researchers from the College of Engineering and Science and the College of Sport and Exercise Science (ISEAL; Biomechanics research group) to conduct fundamental research into sensors and wearable electronics. This will encompass the development of new sensors, and also new applications for existing sensors and wearable electronics. Collaboration with ISEAL will offer innovative sensor solutions by providing portability, real-time monitoring capability and allowing measurements to be taken in the everyday environment outside the laboratory. Potential collaborative research projects include: monitoring an athlete’s movements for injury prevention and performance evaluation, biofeedback-based movement rehabilitation, embedding sensors into sports equipment - including garment sensors, portable gait sensors for balance assessment, tracking injury-rehabilitation outcomes following surgery, remote sensing and monitoring, and adapted sports and disability.
