Aachen, 20/12/2013
In the context of the RASimAs European project (http://rasimas.imib.rwth-aachen.de), a PhD position on patient-specific anatomical modelling is open at the Institute of Medical Informatics (http://www.uk-aachen.de/content/folder/1018014) of the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen (University Hospital Aachen).
The job
The project consists in recording medical images and building anatomical models (including skin surface, muscle, fat, vessels, bone and nerves) for the design of a virtual reality-based simulator and assistant to help and assist medical doctors in the practise of regional anaesthesia. This will involve using and developing techniques related to medical imaging (data recording, data management, manual, semi-automatic and/or automatic segmentation, 3D mesh generating), statistical analysis, and computer graphics (3D mesh generation, 3D mesh deformation). The objective will be to obtain patient-specific models from the medical images.
A high level of interaction with the European partners of the project is expected (regarding medical aspects, biomechanical and physical modelling and virtual reality).
The person
The candidate is expected to have a Master of Science or equivalent and excellent study record in the field of biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, engineering, mathematics or a similar field. Knowledge of signal and image processing, statistical analysis and computer graphics are a significant plus. Programming experience is necessary and good programming knowledge are desirable (Matlab, C++). Working language will be mainly English, knowledge of German is therefore desirable but not necessary.
Conditions
The initial appointment will be for about two and 1/2 years, starting as soon as possible. The position is on the TVL-13 scale (http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tv-l/west/).
Application
Please send a cover letter and a CV to Dr. Antoine Serrurier (aserrurier@mi.rwth-aachen.de). Additional documents supporting the application can also be joined.
