    As a member of the search committee, I wanted to bring our open position to your attention. A background in Bioengineering is preferred.

    The University of Denver seeks nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science. The Ritchie School is home to the Departments of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical and Materials Engineering plus several research institutes and centers. Presently in the midst of an $80M capital campaign, the School will begin construction on a $55M building in early 2014 that will include state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities. Building on the strength of existing faculty expertise, new tenure-line faculty positions are planned in the areas of bioengineering/biomedical engineering, mechatronic systems engineering and computer software systems.     The Dean is the chief academic, administrative and budgetary officer for the Ritchie School and is responsible for leadership and development of all internal programs and external relationships with other academic units, alumni and industry. The successful candidate will possess the leadership, vision and skill set necessary to advance the tradition of excellence and quality in research and instruction within the School. S/he will bring experience with program development and a proven record of success in establishing ties to industry in support of the academic mission. The successful candidate will have a firm understanding of the faculty and academic culture, significant experience with personnel, budgetary, and consensus-building management, a commitment to diversity and excellence, and a commitment to philanthropic fundraising on behalf of the Ritchie School and the University. We solicit candidates for the position from academe, research and industry. The successful candidate’s background should include: an earned doctoral or terminal degree in engineering, computer science or a related field is strongly preferred; a strong background in computer science, bioengineering, or mechatronic systems engineering is preferred; five years of academic administrative experience comparable to a department chair or higher or five years of senior managerial experience in industry; experience in the nurturing of entrepreneurial environments. Additional positives would be recognition by appropriate Academies or Societies and a proven record of attracting research grants.
