    The doctoral program in Physical Therapy at Central Michigan University is seeking a full-time, 12 month support person for a newly created Motion Capture Facility designed to be a core research facility shared by researchers from the departments of Physical Therapy, Engineering, and Exercise Science. This position will be responsible for supporting research activities, including data collection, in the areas of human motion, experimental biomechanics, validation of assistive devices, and virtual reality. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in writing manuscripts and grant proposals.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, or related field.
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of motion capture systems and their integration with other devices.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in one or more computational software programs such as Matlab, Mathematica, Octave, Labview, the Motion Monitor, Visual 3D Motion.
    • Demonstrated ability to read documentation and follow specifications.
    • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated customer service skills, situational awareness, and flexibility.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Masters of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, or related field.
    • Advanced kinematic and kinetic data collections, analysis and post- processing.
    • Custom instrumentation and long-term support of custom-developed software.
    • Developing of assistive devices and/or virtual reality applications.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Installation, maintenance, and customization of motion tracking hardware and software.
    • Provide training and support to faculty, staff, and student researchers.
    • Interact with and assist patients and research subjects while using equipment.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and other technology support persons on campus.
    • Provide written technical documentation and training materials.
    • Writing software scripts for data analysis.
    • Light software development as needed.
    • Integration of new hardware and software technologies with existing systems.
    • Mentoring student technicians as needed.
