INTERN POSITIONS
Location: Providence, RI, USA
Contact: Jiang Yao (Jiang.YAO@3DS.com)
Position Summary:
The Realistic Human Simulation team within the Life Sciences Industry of Dassault Systèmes SIMULIA Corp. is seeking candidates to fill two intern positions with focus on musculoskeletal modeling and tissue modeling. SIMULIA, a brand of Dassault Systemes, provides powerful tools including Abaqus and Isight that provide a complete solution for performing and automating realistic simulations. It is headquartered in Providence, a historic and lively city in the New England area that is home to various higher education institutions, a rich art community, and various scenic locations in its vicinity.
Musculoskeletal focus:
This is an internship opportunity for mechanical engineers with biomedical focus to leverage their technical expertise on biomechanical applications. The intern will help the team develop/enhance musculoskeletal workflow using Abaqus and interface scripting.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Good understanding of rigid body dynamics and engineering mechanics in nonlinear finite element modeling.
- Strong programming skills; specific tasks include Matlab, Python or Fortran scripting
- Experience or practical knowledge of musculoskeletal modeling tools (OpenSim, Anybody) and medical imaging software (such as Amira, Mimics, ScanFE) is a plus.
- Experience in human anatomy and motion capture is preferred, but not required.
Tissue Mechanics focus:
The candidate will provide support for our effort to generate advanced tissue models, provide support in maintaining and improving our tissue database through literature survey and review, and calibrate material properties and connector behavior using Isight.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Experience in the field(s) of computational biomechanics, tissue mechanics, musculoskeletal modeling tools, or other numerical human simulation tools.
- Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of engineering mechanics in nonlinear finite element modeling (Abaqus or other nonlinear FE software).
- Familiarity with computational programming (e.g. Python, JavaScript, FORTRAN, C++).
- Previous experience in developing user subroutines for advanced material modeling is highly desired.
