    PhD Scholarship

Investigating the impact of the first intramuscular Botulinum toxin type A injections on calf muscle structure and function in preschool age children with cerebral palsy

The Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre (QCPRRC) is a centre of excellence in cerebral palsy and paediatric rehabilitation research at the University of Queensland located at the Queensland Children’s Hospital. The centre is linked to the Queensland Children's Gait Laboratory and Queensland Cerebral Palsy Health Service. The chief investigators have received funding from Avant and the CP Alliance to conduct a multicentre trial in Queensland, WA and Victoria. The Investigators seek a post-graduate student suitable for enrolment in a PhD at the University of Queensland.

    The Research Program
The successful candidate will complete a PhD investigating the impact of Botulinum Toxin type A on muscle growth, muscle structural properties and functional capacity in young children with spastic type cerebral palsy in a national multicentre RCT.

    The Person
We are seeking a highly organised, enthusiastic, and motivated graduate with either 1st or 2A Honours degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy, Human Movement Studies, or Exercise Science necessary to enrol in a PhD at UQ. Clinical experience and the ability to work with children is desirable as a keen interest in biomechanics and cerebral palsy. The candidate would have a strong supervisory team (as below) however working on their own initiative is a required skill. Interstate travel will be required.
