  • Assistant Prof position, Biomechanics, @ Université Lyon 1 - LBMC, FRANCE

An assistant Professor position in Biomechanics is available at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (France) in the "Laboratoire de Biomécanique et Mécanique des Chocs"

Job description: Numerical methods in structural mechanics and biomechanics

Teaching : The successful candidate will work in synergy with the teaching teams of the other scientific Departments of the Faculty of Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, etc…). He/She will contribute to the development of on-line resources, including numeric tutorials and practical courseworks within the framework (Sage, WebWork, Ipython) that is already existing at the Department.
The candidate will need to present evidence of a solid background in mechanics and in numerical methods applied to Mechanics. He/She will teach and will contribute to the development of new courses and numerical practicals in these thematics, in particular within the IME Master’s degree. An existing network and knowledge of the industry, as well as the will and ability to communicate and develop the links with the local Engineering industry will be much appreciated in the prospect of contributing to the tutorship of industrial trainings and projects.

Research : The “Laboratoire de Biomécanique et Mécanique des Chocs” (UMR_T 9406 UCBL-IFSTTAR) focuses its research activities at the crossroads of the human body sciences (anatomy, physiology, ergonomics…) and mechanics (systems, structures, materials…). This multidisciplinary research enables the laboratory to address many scientific challenges related for instance to ergonomics, orthopedics, or transport safety. The research is conducted in close relationship with actors of both clinical and industrial fields.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a solid background and experience in computational methods applied to mechanics, physical simulation for computer graphics and animation or processing of medical images. Some prior experience in biomechanics will be greatly appreciated. He/She will discuss and propose a research program relevant to, and in link with one of the research teams of the LBMC. He/she is expected to further contribute to develop the connections and synergies between the different modelling approaches of the LBMC.
