Program in Physical Therapy

The Program in Physical Therapy at the University of Minnesota is inviting applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty position at a rank commensurate with experience (Assistant Professor through Professor). Responsibilities include conducting research, pursuing extramural funding, advising graduate student research (DPT and PhD), and teaching in DPT and PhD Programs. Research expertise in orthopedic biomechanics would best complement the existing faculty and available resources. Areas of teaching needs include biomechanics, kinetics, and instrumentation. The position requires a terminal academic doctorate. Preference will be given to applicants with a clinical degree in physical therapy, post-doctoral research experience, and teaching experience. A candidate should demonstrate strong evidence or promise as a successful scientist and educator in rehabilitation sciences. Successful candidates are expected to build an externally-funded, highly-visible research program and to become a recognized leader in their field.
The Program in Physical Therapy is an academic unit holding 14 full-time faculty lines with a 70-year history within the School of Medicine. The Program upholds a strong national reputation with regard to quality of graduates, NIH funding, and scientific productivity. Degree programs include Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), MS/ PhD in Rehabilitation Science, joint DPT/PhD, and a credentialed Geriatric Clinical Residency. The University of Minnesota is a major public research institution with substantial opportunities for collaborative work with well-established faculty in physical therapy and other University disciplines, as well as community partners. Program faculty have strong established research collaborations with the Department of Orthopaedics. Available resources within the Program include video fluoroscopy and optical and electromagnetic motion capture. Core resources at the University also include the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research including high field MR and musculoskeletal imaging specialists, the Clinical Translational Science Institute, and the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.
