  • Postdoctoral Scholar in Upper Extremity Biomechanics - UC Davis

The Department of Radiology at the UC Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento invites applications for a postdoctoral research position focused on biomechanical modeling of the upper extremity. The successful applicant will work on projects with Dr Abhijit Chaudhari and his collaborators. The research group has strong links with the Department of Medicine, Surgery, Pathology and Biomedical Engineering at UC Davis. More information about the research program can be found at http://www.bme.ucdavis.edu/chaudhari/

The research project involves generation of a model of the upper extremity with clinical applications in hand osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, kinesiology, mechanical engineering, orthopedics, neuroscience, or other closely related discipline. Strong research experience must be demonstrated by one or more first author publications. Good laboratory and software skills are a must. The candidate should be familiar with motion analysis, finite element modeling, programming in MATLAB or another language, construction of biomechanical and mathematical models with tools such as Abaqus, and image processing. In addition to the specific research project, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to journal clubs and actively participate in team-based critical assessment of all on-going projects at weekly lab meetings. The successful candidate will be liaising with biomedical/mechanical engineers, rheumatologists, surgeons, radiologists and imaging technologists as well as physicists, so good communication skills are very important. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension depending on funding and performance.

Interested candidates should contact Dr Abhijit Chaudhari by email at ajchaudhari AT ucdavis.edu with “Postdoc position in Biomechanics” in the subject line. Applicants must attach a cover letter, a detailed CV and contact information for three referees.
