Founded in 1995, the Institute of Orthopedic Research and Education (IORE) is a non-profit 501(c)(iii) organization based in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

IORE’s accomplished team of academics and engineers has expertise in:

• Biomechanical characterization of bone and soft-tissue constructs of all sizes
• Real-time, non-contact measurement of the 3D deformation of biological tissues
• Design and development of novel implantable devices
• Reconstruction and computer-based analysis of medical imaging
• Characterization of implantable biomaterials

Cumulatively, our experts have contributed more than 1,000 scientific publications to
the peer-reviewed literature.

IORE’s Director of Research, Philip C. Noble, Ph.D. (Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Baylor College of Medicine), brings 34 years of experience in biomechanical research to the team. Dr. Noble’s vision is to develop research programs that enhance the effectiveness and safety of orthopedic procedures and devices while providing unique academic opportunities to surgeons, trainees, and students.

The research fellow will primarily work towards the development of new biomaterials, scaffold geometries, and surface modifications for enhancing biological incorporation of joint resurfacing implants and osteochondral grafts. The applicant should have a working knowledge of techniques for (i) mechanical characterization of cartilage, bone and related biological materials, (ii)biocompatibility testing of materials prosed for long-term implantation within the body, and (iii)characterization of the osteo/chondro-conductive and -inductive potential of candidate materials for implant development. The postdoctoral fellow will also assist in projects involving the biomechanical evaluation of orthopedic implants and surgical repair techniques.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of IORE’s translational research, candidates with experience in biomedical engineering, tissue engineering, chemistry, programming, and anatomy will be given strongest consideration.
