Contract renewal of this Temporary Instructor position is based on the quality of teaching and needs of the department.     Temporary Instructor in Health and Exercise Sciences
    Truman State University

    The School of Health Sciences and Education at Truman State University is seeking applicants for a full-time, temporary instructor in Health and Exercise Sciences to start August 2014. This is a nine month position with the possibility of contract renewal based on the future needs of the department and university.

    Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in the areas of human anatomy, to include human cadaver laboratories (pro-sected teaching model), lifetime health and fitness, and exercise science courses at the introductory and advanced undergraduate level, for majors and non-majors. Additional duties after the first year, if the position is renewed, include academic advising.

    Required Qualifications:
    • A graduate degree (minimum master’s degree) in Exercise Science or a closely related field;
    • Evidence and/or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness in Exercise Science;
    • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills; and
    • Commitment to the liberal arts and sciences

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience teaching human cadaver laboratories (pro-sected teaching model)
    • Evidence and/or demonstrated potential for developing critical thinking and problem solving skills in undergraduates; and
    • Evidence and/or demonstrated potential for encouraging and mentoring undergraduate students in transformative learning experiences such as undergraduate research, service-learning, and internships

    Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and education; benefits package includes life, health and disability insurance, retirement contributions, and reimbursed assistance for moving expenses.

    Program: The Department of Health and Exercise Sciences at Truman has 16 full-time faculty members and approximately 750 students in the three major programs as well as a minor in Coaching. For more information about the program and Truman State University, please visit us at

    Lab Space: The department has recently opened two new labs, the Human Performance Lab includes over 180 square meters of work space and includes treadmills, bike ergometers, SensorMedics Metabolic Cart, HUMAC isokinetic system, DXA system, and other various equipment. The Piper Movement Analysis Lab includes over 200 square meters of work space and includes a 12 camera Vicon system, 3 force plates, 16 channel Delsys EMG system, Dartfish software, Neurocom Balance system, and other various equipment for biomechanics and motor learning.
