Research Scientist, CHOP’s Center for Injury Research Prevention (Philadelphia, USA)

We are working with the Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP), a Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia research institute, to recruit a Research Engineer with a PhD in Engineering (or MS coupled with 6-8 years of relevant experience). Specific experience in injury/impact biomechanics and occupant protection is strongly preferred (please see attached position description). The ideal candidate would have some post-doctoral fellowship experience and must have strong communications skills, both orally and in writing. This person would be expected to submit at least 2 grants annually as a PI to CIRP’s Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies (CChIPS), an NSF Industry University Collaborative Research Center (I/UCRC). Through CChIPS, researchers from CHOP, the University of Pennsylvania, and Ohio State University work side by side with vehicle and restraint manufacturers, as well as federal regulating agencies, to conduct and translate field data and laboratory testing into improved product designs to better protect children and young adults (through age 24). Industry and agency members include: Honda, Britax, the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma, Chrysler Group, Evenflo, Ford Motor, General Motors, Graco, Humanetics Innovative Solutions, the NHTSA, Nissan, RealTime Technologies, State Farm, TK Holdings, Toyota, the Transportation Research Center, and Volkswagen. Of the more than 60 I/UCRC designated centers nationwide, CChIPS is the only one that focuses solely on child injury prevention.
