Post-Doctoral Position

Applications are invited for a multi-disciplinary 2-year post-doctoral research position in the area of posture control and sensorimotor integration in infants and children with cerebral palsy. Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in engineering, neuroscience, or in a related discipline. ABD’s will be considered providing they document a degree completion date. Candidates should have a background in the areas of engineering, mathematical modeling, biomechanics, and/or neuroscience. Start date is flexible, but anticipated for the fall of 2014.
The position offers a unique combination of engineering based mathematical modeling and analysis along with patient interactions and data collection. The overall goal of the project is to understand how infants use sensory feedback to control their head and trunk using a longitudinal study design; and then to relate these finding to results from experiments from children with moderate-to-severe cerebral palsy so that better rehabilitation can be used based on sensorimotor processes. The post-doc will be able to work directly with Dr. Adam Goodworth in sensorimotor integration modeling and analysis and with Dr. Sandra Saavedra in data collection and clinical interpretation of findings. Collaborations with professionals in orthotics also exist. The project offers a unique and synergistic approach. Funding is available to conference travel and presentations.
The position will be based within the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the University of Hartford, which includes both a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program and a Master’s of Prosthetics and Orthotics program. Regular collaborations exist with the College of Engineering, hospitals, and clinics outside the university. The university is located in West Hartford, CT. It is within reach of small towns and semi-rural settings, but also close to urban living and only about a 2 hour drive to either Boston or New York City.
