    The Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety (www.libertymutual.com/research), Center for Physical Ergonomics invites applications at the Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist level. Of particular interest are researchers with a strong interest and background to lead and execute innovative research projects to realize the use of wearable sensors or other technology for the prediction and prevention of falls in real time. Also of interest are researchers with a strong interest and background to lead and execute novel research concerning stairs with a goal of developing a strong body of work towards evidenced based risk assessment and prevention strategies as well as to enhance safety for people in a variety of built environments. To facilitate reaching these goals, research to better understand falls within the context of the design, construction, management and use of built environments and translation of research to reduce injury or enhance prevention are of considerable interest.

    This is a fully-salaried, permanent position with excellent compensation and benefits. The successful candidate will work as part of a larger team within the Center of Physical Ergonomics and The Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety (LMRIS). LMRIS is currently celebrating 60 years of generating scientific knowledge to help people live safer more secure lives. The Research Institute employs approximately 50 people and engages in multidisciplinary field and lab research in disciplines of physical ergonomics, behavioral sciences, epidemiology and return to work/disability across domain areas that include the workplace, built environment, driver safety and return to work / disability. The Center for Physical Ergonomics includes a variety of laboratories including an 1,800 sq. foot biomechanics lab (with 25 ft. ceiling height) complete with various motion capture systems, force plates, electromyography systems, as well as metabolic measurement systems and strength measurement equipment. The Institute staff is well published in the open literature and active in many national and international scientific societies and conferences.

    Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biomechanics, kinesiology, physiology, motor control, movement science, or related background and a record of multiple publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals. Experience in planning and executing human subjects research is essential.
