2 × PhD Scholarships in Neuromusculoskeletal Modelling, Centre for Musculoskeletal Research, Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia
Two opportunities currently exist to apply for PhD scholarships in the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research (CMR). One is in collaboration with the department of Orthopaedic Surgery (Queensland Health) and the Queensland Children’s Gait Laboratory, and the other is to work on a large nationally competitive grant examining the tissue mechanics in femoral acetabular impingement (FAI). Both projects are working with colleagues at the University of Auckland.
Successful applicants will work with a team of research and clinical staff on projects related to the development of subject specific musculoskeletal models of the human lower limb. The first PhD project will focus on a paediatric population, while the second will study an adult population with FAI. Both projects will develop subject specific models that will combine medical imaging (MRI and/or 3D Ultrasound) and 3D motion capture with electromyography (EMG) to create calibrated EMG-informed neuromusculoskeletal models that load finite element models of musculoskeletal tissues. These methods will be used to answer biomechanical questions related to various musculoskeletal conditions.
We are seeking applicants with a strong background in mechanical engineering, computer programming, robotics and/or biomechanics. Experience with Matlab, Visual C++, multibody system dynamics, 3D motion capture and analysis would be an advantage. The successful applicants will receive a tax free AUD$25,392 per annum PhD scholarship for 3 years. Domestic and international applicants are welcome. Start dates for the scholarships are negotiable. We reserve the right to not appoint and appoint by invitation.
To register your interest please forward your CV, copies of you academic transcripts, 2 academic references and a cover letter that specifies your earliest possible commencement date by the 29th of August 2014 to:
