Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, a teaching and research intensive department at the University of Guelph, invites applications for a 5 year contractually limited appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Biomechanics and/or Neurophysiology.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a related area, ideally postdoctoral research experience, and a proven record of successful teaching at the University level. Prior experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research projects would be an asset.
The primary research objectives of the current biomechanics/neurophysiology faculty in the department are to prevent disability and improve quality of life by identifying, at a pre-clinical stage, mechanical, neural and physiological risk factors related to musculoskeletal disability, including aging, sensory deficits, pathological degeneration, and chronic pain. The successful candidate would be expected to develop a research program in the broad area of biomechanics and/or neurophysiology. Teaching responsibilities will also be in the biomechanics/neurophysiology area at the University of Guelph and the University of Guelph-Humber.
The Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences offers undergraduate Honours B.Sc. programs in Human Kinetics, Biomedical Sciences, and Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences at the University of Guelph with a total enrolment of ~1600 students and an undergraduate BASc program in Kinesiology at the University of Guelph-Humber (~400 students). The Department also has a vibrant graduate program with an enrolment of ~110-120 graduate students each year.
