Job Description :
The primary purpose of this position is to provide engineering support for the Anthropometric and Biomechanics Facility (ABF) at the NASA Johnson Space Center. The ABF is a component of the Research and Operations Department, which implements the scientific, engineering, and operational objectives for the Johnson Space Center. The ABF is tasked to research and evaluate flight equipment, procedures, and systems from the perspective of biomechanics, human performance, human factors, ergonomics, and anthropometry. The programs supported by the ABF include but are not limited to astronaut candidate selection, ISS operational support, design evaluation of space vehicles, space suits, tool, and test equipment, and requirements generation. Data gathered by the ABF are used to improve crew living and working conditions in order to enhance productivity, operational efficiency, and crew safety. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art motion analysis systems, force sensing devices, and anthropometric measuring devices (including 3D scanners).
Basic Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Biomechanics, or a related field (for example: Human Factors, Ergonomics, or Biomedical Engineering) plus 2-5 yrs related experience, or a Masters degree plus 0 to 3 yrs related experience.
Experience in human factors design and testing.
Desired skills
Masters degree plus 3-5+ yrs related experience.
Ph.D. plus 1-3 yrs related experience.
The desired candidate will have hands-on lab experience including experience in data collection, experimental design, data analyses, and motion analysis.
Human factors engineering familiarity with NASA-STD-3000, MIL-STD-1472, or similar requirements.
Experience with human modeling and simulation and parametric CAD software (preferably SolidWorks or PTC Creo) is desired.
Familiarity with occupational safety, system usability, epidemiology, and occupational musculoskeletal disorders/injuries.
