    Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC): Engineering Fellowship

    Marquette University/Medical College of Wisconsin/Shriners Hospital, Chicago

    We have an opening for a post-doctoral engineering fellow funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education (NIDRR). The training program is for 24 to 36 months in duration and is structured to provide cross-disciplinary training in research, publication and grantsmanship skills. The fellow will be matched with a mentoring team of both Engineering Ph.D. and surgical/rehabilitation M.D. research mentors on an appropriate rehabilitation research project.

    The postdoctoral trainee will experience a program designed to offer a unique set of capabilities to succeed as a rehabilitation researcher. There are three essential elements into the training program (1) Didactics, (2) Mentored Research Areas and (3) Collegial & Collaborative Activities. The focus is on Research. Trainees also receive extensive training and experience in proposal writing and the critical peer review process. The capstone experience for the postdoctoral trainees is the completion of a sponsored workshop in their field of study with nationally recognized leaders in attendance.

    Qualifications: Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or related engineering field with strong evidence of an interest in research.

    Responsibilities:
    1. Completing the didactic requirements including courses, workshops, and seminars in evidence based research, scientific writing and grantsmanship, biostatistics and outcomes assessment, human motion analysis, ethics and legal issues, as well as practical research skills such as manuscript and grant writing, and IRB review mechanisms;
    2. Completing a directed independent research project in one of several research areas including: Biomechanics, Biomaterials, and Motion and Mobility;
    3. Participating in Collegial & Collaborative Activities such as joining a national organization, submitting an abstract or short paper for a national scientific meeting, attending a national scientific meeting, and giving two presentations per year at the ARRT meetings;

    As capstone completion requirements, the Fellow will be expected to submit an intramural proposal, complete a research pilot study, submit multiple journal articles during the course of the Fellowship, and submit two extramural proposals.
