Georgia Southern University invites nominations and applications for the position of
Assistant/Associate Professor of Athletic Training in the School of Health and Kinesiology in the
College of Health and Human Sciences.
Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of Health and Kinesiology, the Graduate Program
Coordinator will be responsible for teaching courses in the graduate, and potentially
undergraduate, programs, recruiting and advising graduate students, and directing graduate
student research. In addition, the successful candidate will promote and sustain interdisciplinary
dialogue, research, and service; hold active membership in professional
associations/organizations; and serve on committees and participate in official activities at the
departmental, college, and university levels. The position is a nine-month tenure track
appointment with possibilities for summer teaching. The salary is competitive and commensurate
with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training or related field prior to
appointment date
• NATA-BOC certified and eligible for State of Georgia licensure
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without
assistance from the institution
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning as evidenced by a presentation during
the campus visit with students present
• Promise of productive scholarship consistent with the teacher-scholar model
• Commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service that is consistent with the College’s
priorities for the Department and the mission of the University
• Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the Department, College, and
University
• Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology in teaching and
scholarship
• Commitment to professional service within the University and beyond
• Minimum of 5 years of college/university teaching experience and a record of excellence
in teaching, a solid record of research/scholarship, and a record of service required for
appointment at the rank of associate professor
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of one year of college/university teaching experience in Sports
Medicine/Athletic Training field is preferred for appointment at the rank of assistant
professor
• For the rank of associate professor, a record of securing extramural funding to support
research and substantive publication and presentation in professional venues
• Interest in working in diverse academic and professional communities
