the Department of Physiotherapy, St. Poelten University of Applied Sciences, Austria (http://english.fhstp.ac.at/courses/bachelor/pt) is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated researcher or PhD student for a 3 years research project in the field of gait and exercise biomechanics. This position is partly paid (30hours/week) for 3 years (1955,80€ gross per month) and starts with February 2015.
The project “Children`s KNEEs Study” aims at analysing altered biomechanical movement strategies in obese children during walking and stair climbing. Based on this information a specific strength and neuromuscular exercises training program will be developed for the special needs of this target audience. Within a randomized controlled trail (RCT) effects of the training program will be evaluated from a therapeutic and biomechanical viewpoint.

Your responsibilities:
- Intensive cooperation in all stages of the project with the project leader and all cooperation partners
- Independently work in specific work packages (e.g. data capturing and data processing) and partially lead work packages as well (in collaboration with the project leader)
- Assistance in project organization (e.g. Participant recruiting, dissemination)
- Independently write, and support in the preparation of publications related to the project
- Support in writing new research proposals in the area of gait and exercises biomechanics
Your qualification:
- Master’s degree in sports science, physiotherapy, biomechanics, clinical engineering or similar
- Knowledge in the field of biomechanics and motion analysis
- Excellent skills in scientific working, and good skills in statistics
- Basic knowledge in programming (e.g. Matlab)
- Desired (but not required): knowledge and experience in working with Motion Capture Technologies (e.g. VICON and Polygon).
- Highly motivated to work in the field of biomechanics and therapy
