The College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean. Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Georgia Southern offers more than 100 academic majors in a comprehensive array of baccalaureate degrees and selected master's and doctoral programs. Academic programs are organized within eight colleges: Business Administration, Education, Health and Human Sciences, the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Information Technology, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, Science and Mathematics, and the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies.

Within this setting, the College of Health and Human Sciences provides comprehensive and innovative programs that promote health and quality of life for individuals, families, and communities within a global society. The hallmark of the college is its unique blend of disciplines which foster engaged teaching and learning opportunities, creative and contemporary scholarship, and socially responsive service activities. Faculty and students are empowered to transform the human environment, promote health and quality of life, advance their discipline, and be responsible citizens. CHHS is distinguished by student preparation that extends learning beyond the classroom through service learning, practica, internships, and clinical experiences. The College consists of three schools: Health and Kinesiology, Human Ecology, and Nursing, with 94 faculty and 39 staff. There are 3,186 undergraduate students and 231 graduate students. CHHS has undergraduate and graduate accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics; the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Association; the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education; the Council for Interior Design Accreditation; the National Association for the Education of the Young Child; the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education; the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education; and the National Recreation and Parks Association. The College offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice; master’s degrees in Nursing, Athletic Training, Coaching Education, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport Management, and Sports Nutrition; and a Dietetic Internship Certificate. At the undergraduate level, there are degrees in Athletic Training, Child and Family Development, Exercise Science, Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design, Interior Design, Nursing, Nutrition and Food Science, Recreation, and Sport Management, along with a variety of minors.
Position Description. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is expected to guide the College to national prominence. The Dean provides leadership and vision for the College; sets the standard for intellectual engagement; advocates for the College’s needs and programs; supports faculty members in their teaching, professional development, service and intellectual contributions; encourages collaboration across disciplines; ensures the fiscal integrity of the College; and provides leadership for fundraising and resource development.
The position is a 12-month appointment and also carries tenured faculty rank at the professor level. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
•A doctoral degree within a discipline of the college
•A record of achievement sufficient for appointment as a tenured full professor at Georgia Southern University
•High standards of professional integrity and a strong sense of professional ethics
•Demonstrated academic leadership and administrative experience
•Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
Preferred Qualifications:
•Success in building partnerships and relationships across academic disciplines, administrative units, and the external community
•Experience managing budgets in an academic institution
•Experience meeting accrediting agency standards
•Experience creating a culture supporting faculty in teaching, research and external funding
•Experience raising private funds in annual and/or capital campaigns
