The University of Hartford is looking for a Research Engineer in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. This position will assists in development of research technologies (hardware and software), technical consultation on research design, oversight of data collection and analysis, and quality assurance of research data.
The Research Engineer:
- Provides developmental guidance and expertise on hardware and software technical development. Designs/modifies equipment to suit project goals. Works in consultation with faculty regarding content of laboratory sessions. Assists in the development and design of experiments and choice of technologies and equipment needed for student experiments.
- Prepares and oversees labs for daily use by lab instructors, faculty and students. Ensures labs are fully functional including, but not limited to, waste disposal, inventory of materials, ordering bulk or common use department materials and maintenance of equipment.
- Coordinates, facilitates and instructs lab sections for Biomechanics and Kinesiology for the DPT and MSPO programs. Maintain lead responsibility for the assurance of post data collection management and data analyses for teaching labs.
- Trains and supervises undergraduate/graduate research assistants and faculty members on the best-practices and technical aspects of the laboratory equipment, inclusive of both mechanical and electrical engineering principles such as sampling rates, signal-to-noise ratio, grounding, inertia, laws of motion, optimization, coordinating transformations, reference frames, and software programming.
- Performs calibration of equipment. Maintains and observes all safety policies and procedures, including documentation necessary to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and safety standards. Inspects equipment regularly for safety in an effort to maintain safe laboratory conditions and reduce hazards at all times.
