Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF) is an affiliate of the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation. The mission of SPF is sustainably improving the situation of people with spinal cord injury (SCI) through clinical and interdisciplinary research on a national and international level. Specific areas of its comprehensive research include human functioning, social integration, quality of life, health services provision as well as health communication. The main research platform of SPF is the Swiss Spinal Cord Injury Cohort Study (SwiSCI). SwiSCI specifically aims providing data about SCI in Switzerland to various stakeholders, including researchers, service providers and policy makers.

PhD Candidate in Health Sciences
The successful candidate will be affiliated to SPF’s Shoulder Health and Mobility Group. The group’s overall aim is to optimize mobility in individuals with SCI. The candidate’s work will focus on the predictors and the consequences of shoulder pain. The candidate will make use of existing SwiSCI data and contribute to the collection of additional data by performing clinical assessments and biomechanical measurements. Enrollment as PhD candidate is foreseen at the Graduate School of Lucerne, University of Lucerne, Switzerland.

Requirements:
- Master’s degree in a health science or a health-related field
- Experience in clinical assessments and biomechanical measurements
- Strong interest in patient-oriented research
- Good statistical knowledge and willingness for further development
- Proficiency in application of statistical software packages (e.g. STATA, SPSS)
- Proficiency in English and German
- Independent working method as well as ability to work in a team
Typical tasks include:
- Reviewing scientific literature
- Development of a PhD research plan
- Data collection and quality control
- Performing statistical analyses
- Writing of scientific papers as part of the PhD thesis
- Regular participation in the University’s graduate program
