The principal responsibility of the successful candidate will be the coordination of a recently awarded multi-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). The objective of this project is to study muscle activation in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome as well as the effects of both pain and exercise on these patterns. Fine-wire EMG will be used to examine deficits in activation and motor patterns, while voluntary activation will be used to study problems with central drive.

    Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Movement Science, Engineering or related field
    • Working knowledge of biomechanics
    • Experience working with clinical populations

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree
    • Experience with kinematic and electromyography data collection and analysis
    • Ability to perform statistical analyses
    • Programming skills (LabView and iOS)

    Responsibilities
    • Coordinate subject recruitment and scheduling
    • Perform (or assisting with) biomechanical testing of subjects. Lab protocols include collecting the following types of data: kinematics, force, electromyography (surface and fine wire), voluntary activation, and joint position sense
    • Maintain equipment and stocking of supplies
    • Coordinate Human Subject Compliance issues, including working on IRB applications

Questions regarding this position should be directed to Dr. Karduna (karduna@uoregon.edu). Applicants should send a cover letter and curriculum vitae, along with the contact information for 2-3 references to: ddkintz@uoregon.edu with "Posting 140416" in the subject heading.
