Assistant Professor in the Area of Physical Activity, Sport or Exercise for People Experiencing Disability

The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-*-track faculty position in the area of physical activity, sport or exercise for people experiencing disability at the rank of assistant professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2015.
The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation (FPER) is where the “Art and Science of Human Movement come Alive!” With 44 faculty members, 967 undergraduate students, 125 graduate students, and more than 400 student-*-athletes, FPER is complex, richly diverse in its research and integrated in its make-*-up. The Faculty is currently celebrating the Golden Anniversary of its founding in 1964, making it one of the oldest programs of its kind in Canada and one that has long been a leader at an international level as exemplified by being the first facultyof physical education and recreation in the Commonwealth to offer a doctoral degree (1967). We continue to build on this legacy with a vision “to inspire the human spirit through meaningful achievements in physical activity, sport and leisure that impact the health and quality of life in all levels of society.”
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in working in the area of physical activity, sport or exercise with persons experiencing disability. This individual will join a strong and established group of multidisciplinary researchers and will have the opportunity to be involved with the Steadward Centre for Personal and Physical Achievement (www.steadwardcentre.ualberta.ca/), one of three academic centres within the Faculty and the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital (http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/facilities/grh/) through an existing partnership with that facility. The Faculty seeks to recruit a strong candidate from a range of specific disciplines including, but not limited to:
Applicants must have completed a PhD by the time of appointment and with relevant postdoctoral experience being considered an asset. The successful candidate will bring a record of achievement commensurate with appointment at an Assistant Professor level that includes a record of publication in quality peer-*-reviewed journals as well as demonstrated potential to secure external competitive funding through Tri-*-Council funding (i.e., national competition funding). S/he will work in a disciplinary background that will enhance and extend existing expertise within the Faculty in the areas of physical activity, sport or exercise for people experiencing disability and will be expected to make a high-*-quality contribution to undergraduate teaching and graduate teaching and supervision.
Applicants should provide a current curriculum vitae and a letter of application that includes a statement of research interests and needs (lab space/equipment), a statement of teaching experience and expertise, and names of three references.
