    Assistant/Associate Professor in Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy

    The Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (PTHMS) within the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is inviting applications for a full-time faculty position, in the non-tenure, clinician-educator track, in the area of musculoskeletal physical therapy. Primary responsibilities will include serving as a coordinator of musculoskeletal content in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum, a leadership role in the new Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency (a joint program with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago), and team teaching in other DPT courses. Additional responsibilities of the position include scholarship, student advising, service on departmental committees, and clinical practice within the academic medical center.

    Rank is commensurate with experience and credentials. Salary is negotiable. The ideal applicant will be a physical therapist eligible for Illinois licensure, with an earned PhD or other academic doctorate in Orthopedics, Education, Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Neuromuscular Rehabilitation or a related discipline, and with clinical specialization in orthopaedic physical therapy (or equivalent). The candidate is expected to have a scholarly research agenda and preference will be given to applicants with grant writing experience. Applicants should have a successful record of teaching orthopedic physical therapy, including manual therapy, to DPT students and will be expected to organize and help direct a high quality teaching program that is concept-structured, based on scientific evidence, and emphasizes active student learning.

    PTHMS is part of the vibrant educational and cultural community of Northwestern University located on the Chicago campus of Northwestern University close to Lake Michigan and the “Magnificent Mile". In 2013 PTHMS developed a comprehensive collaboration agreement with RIC opening up opportunities for faculty practice, research, physical therapy residency programs, and expanded student and resident training opportunities. PTHMS also has collaborations with the Departments of Biomedical, Mechanical Engineering, Orthopedics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Neurological Surgery, Physiology, and Oncology. The successful applicant is expected to foster existing and new inter-departmental relationships.
