    Postdoctoral Fellow in the Orthopaedic and Injury Biomechanics Group

    The University of British Columbia, Orthopaedic and Injury Biomechanics group has an opening for a highly motivated applicant to join our group as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Responsibilities will include the mechanical testing of a novel auxetic and viscoelastic helmet padding material in prototype hockey helmets. The candidate may also have an active role in the design and manufacture of prototype helmets and in the execution of mechanical impact and/or kinematics experiments that will best represent head impacts in hockey. The Associate will also act as a bridge to the School of Health and Exercise Sciences at UBC Okanogan where a sister study will be ongoing evaluating this material in the context of youth head impacts and to the Department of Pathology at UBC Vancouver where various supportive preclinical testing protocols will be conducted. Duties will include academic publishing in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, and collaboration with academic, industrial, and government research partners. Qualified Candidates will have:

    • PhD in mechanical, biomechanical or a related engineering discipline
    • Experience in Biomedical engineering
    • Candidates with impact and helmet testing and design engineering will be preferred
    • Superior oral and written English communication skills
    • Candidates should also have demonstrated experience in experimental design, and/or general safety equipment design.

    This is a one-year term appointment with the opportunity for continued employment providing there is satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
