    BIOMECHANICAL / BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH ENGINEER

    The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Health Effects Laboratory Division(HELD) in Morgantown, West Virginia, is seeking interested applicants for a fellowship position in the area of biomechanical and/or biomedical engineering.


    Job Description:

    The position is located in the Occupational Biomechanics Research Team of the Engineering and Control Technology Branch, a multidisciplinary group of researchers. The Team conducts laboratory investigations of work-related musculoskeletal injuries and disorders in the hand-arm-shoulder-neck system. The incumbent will function as one of the key members of this group whose objectives are the pursuit of knowledge and the development of applicable techniques and methods. The Team’s research involves: measurement of the exposure factors such as the postures and movements of the system and the forces acting on the system that are associated with the operation of various tools or machines; measurement of sEMG (surface electromyography) and/or NIRS (near infrared spectroscopy) on human subjects; measurement of psychophysical responses using available technologies or methods; development and application of computer models to analyze the load in the muscles, tendons, and joints of the system; development and evaluation of methodologies and technologies for prevention and intervention in musculoskeletal injuries and disorders.

    Qualifications:
    A Doctoral Degree in Biomechanical or Biomedical Engineering or relevant disciplines is preferred. Candidates must have relevant musculoskeletal injury and disease research experience. Candidates with research experience in work-related arm or shoulder disorders as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications will receive primary consideration. The candidate must have good communication and teamwork skills.

    Salary range: $58,000 - $91,000 / per year, plus US federal employee benefits.
